What is an SR-22? An SR-22 enforces State-Required proof of financial responsibility, meaning you will carry at least Arizona's minimum 15/30/10 ($15,000 coverage per person / $30,000 per accident / $10,000 for property damage) liability insurance on your car for the specified time frame.
Why? Because liability insurance is mandatory. Insurance companies notify the Motor Vehicle Division of all policy cancellations, non-renewals, and new policies. If your insurance company sends MVD a notice that your policy is no longer active, they will send you an inquiry notice to verify insurance status. You are of course also asked for proof of insurance at traffic stops or accidents.
Failure to maintain proper insurance could lead to the suspension of your vehicle registration and/or driver license. To reinstate these privileges, fees and future proof of financial responsibility must be filed with the MVD. The future proof requirement is most commonly an SR22 formfrom an insurance company. This can be expensive to the vehicle owner, especially since the law requires the owner to carry the SR22 for three years from the date of suspension.
How much does it cost? An SR22 is a form you must pay to have filed within your auto insurance policy contract; it cannot be purchased separate from the policy. Each insurer charges differently for it, as they also will for liability coverage depending on their customer rating practices, so shopping for an SR22 means shopping for a reasonably-priced insurance/SR22 package.
For a quote fill out the auto quote form, and check "yes" when asked if you need an SR22.
